Guitars are one of the most popular instruments across the globe. While most musicians are familiar with the ins and outs of different kinds of guitars, many people don’t know that there are more varieties than acoustic and electric. Today we are going to go over a sampling of the different guitars available and their uses. This is by no means an exhaustive list, and many other varieties of guitar are available, but this will help you get a feel for the variety and flexibility of guitars available today.

Guitars go back a long way, with their manufacture beginning in the Twelfth century. While the art of their making has been highly refined over the years their general make and design has remained much the same, with them being a plucked string instrument with a rigid neck and frets. While back in the early days of this instrument, only a few varieties were available, there is now a dazzling amount of choice available to the aspiring guitarist.

While all guitars are generally divided into the two commonly known groupings of acoustic and electric, there are so many sub-genres to pick from within these broad reaching categories. Some of the types to cover can include E-Guitars, Jazz guitars, Classical Guitars, resonator guitars, archtop guitars, and flamenco guitars. Each of these varieties has their own unique sound, which can contribute to and change the way your music reaches your audience.
